Reporting from Iraq is perilous, particularly for Western reporters, therefore it is perhaps no surprise that the Times would resort to embellishing the briefings they receive from the Occupation Forces. However, this is article is pure fabrication; there is no one in the Mahdi army who would call themselves Abu Bakr!

This article is a testament to the fact that the Times is inherently dishonest, and spectacularly ignorant of Islam and the Middle East.

Al Shia regard Abu Bakr, the first Caliph, as a usurper, who opposed the Prophet's (saw) chosen successor, Imam Ali (as). For this reason Abu Bakr is a detested by al-Shia.
